Argentinian midfielder Esteban Cambiasso has been told he can leave Inter Milan after the Serie A giants refused to offer him a new deal.

Cambiasso has spent 10 years with Inter after joining from Real Madrid in 2004 after just two seasons with the Spanish league giants.

Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio revealed on Saturday the 33-year-old Argentinian -- who is not selected for the World Cup -- is now surplus to requirements.

Asked whether Cambiasso would remain a part of the club, Ausilio said their normal morning meeting "had a slightly more official air about it".

"We explained to him that as part of our strategy to freshen up the squad we won't be offering him a new deal," said Ausilio.

"We've never spoken about money, he's never asked for anything in that sense. In any case I like to think that he's the sort of person who will come back to Inter in some shape or form one day."

Inter are Italy's last winners of a European trophy, winning the Champions League as part of an historic treble under Jose Mourinho in 2010.

The Nerazzurri missed out on Europe this campaign, but have clinched a Europa League spot for next season.

Walter Mazzarri's side play their final game of the season away to Chievo on Sunday.
