Alves dropped for Colombia quarter-final

Barcelona right-back Dani Alves was replaced by Maicon as Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari made two changes to his side for their World Cup quarter-final against Colombia on Friday.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Paulinho also replaced the suspended Luis Gustavo in midfield from the side that squeezed past Chile on penalties in the last 16.

Striker Fred kept his place, though, despite criticism of his performances, with Neymar and Hulk supporting from either wing.

Colombia boss Jose Pekerman also made two changes to the side that beat Uruguay 2-0 in the last 16.

Inter Milan midfielder Fredy Guarin and Cagliari forward Victor Ibarbo came in for Abel Aguilar and Jackson Martinez.

The competition's top scorer with five goals, James Rodriguez, will start just behind Teofilo Gutierrez in attack.
