Socceroo Rukavytsya joins Wanderers for A-League season

Socceroo Nikita Rukavytsya has signed a one-year deal with the Western Sydney Wanderers for the new A-League season, the club said Monday.

Ukraine-born Rukavytsya, 27, has joined the AFC Champion League finalists from Bundesliga club FSV Mainz 05.

Rukavytsya, who can play anywhere across the forward line, returns to the A-League after a five-year stint in Europe playing for FSV Frankfurt, Hertha Berlin and FC Twente.

Wanderers CEO John Tsatsimas said his signing was important for the club's A-League and AFC Champions League campaigns.

"This is a class acquisition for the club. Nikita will give us options across our front line, has a strong pedigree and is familiar with the A-League from his days at Perth Glory," Tsatsimas said.

Rukavytsya has played 13 times for Australia since his debut in 2009.
