Bankrupt James auctions mementoes

Former England goalkeeper David James is to auction more than 150 shirts, shorts and footballs from his career later this month after being declared bankrupt.

Nicknamed 'Calamity' following some high-profile errors, James nevertheless played for several top-flight clubs including Liverpool, Aston Villa, West Ham and Manchester City as well as appearing for Portsmouth in their 2008 FA Cup final win over Cardiff at Wembley.

The 44-year-old James was declared bankrupt earlier this year despite being estimated to have earned around £20 million ($32 million, 26 million euros) from football.

Several British newspapers cited an expensive divorce from his wife Tanya in 2005, reported to have cost £3 million, as one source of James's money troubles.

The auction will take place online at hilcoind.co.uk, with lots being sold off from November 18.
