Torosidis joins Roma casualty list

Roma defender Vasilis Torosidis has been sidelined after being diagnosed with a calf strain, the Serie A club said Thursday.

A statement from Roma said: "Earlier today, Vasilis Torosidis underwent medical tests that revealed a grade-one strain to his right calf.

"The player has already started treatment on the injury."

A grade one is the least severe kind of strain, and usually requires one to two weeks recovery.

Torosidis joins fellow defenders Maicon, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa and Leandro Castan on Roma's casualty list.

The Serie A title challengers sit three points behind Juventus in Italy's top flight ahead of Sunday's home clash with Inter.

Roma also remain in contention for a place in the last 16 of the Champions League despite a 1-1 draw away to CSKA Moscow on Tuesday.

The Giallorossi sit second in Group E behind already qualified Bayern Munich, but have the same points as Manchester City and CSKA ahead of their final group game against City in Rome next month.
