Lithuania says 'no big pressure' before England game

Lithuania's international defender Marius Zaliukas said Monday his team felt "no big pressure" ahead of a landmark Euro 2016 qualifier with England, as the Baltic state's squad was announced.

Friday's game at Wembley will be the first match against England for Lithuania since they returned to international football after five decades of Soviet occupation ended in 1991.

"Everybody understands who the favourites are for this game. I don't think that we'll feel any big pressure," Zaliukas told AFP.

"England needs a victory at any cost," the 31-year-old added.

Zaliukas, who plays for troubled Scottish giants Rangers, said he was "100 percent ready" after missing the three last qualifying games due to injury.

"I don't think we need any special preparations. Everybody is watching the Premier League and knows who we will face," Zaliukas said.

Lithuania, which is a lowly 94th place in FIFA's global rankings, kicked off their campaign with wins against Estonia and San Marino before losing to Slovenia and Switzerland.

The Baltic nation had hoped to beef up its defensive line-up with South African player Larry Cohen. He recently got a Lithuanian passport but failed to secure the green light from FIFA to play for the national side.
