Cuba football coach Raul Valentin has been hit with a five-match suspension and an undisclosed fine for racially abusing a referee during a match against Venezuela last year, regional officials said Monday.

A statement from governing football body CONCACAF said Valentin had been sanctioned for his behavior in the match at the Central American and Caribbean Games in November.

The statement said Valentin had "used offensive and racist language toward the referee" during the match and continued his tirade after the final whistle.

CONCACAF said Valentin had already served two matches of his ban, and the remainder would be served in three upcoming friendly matches.

"The Confederation enforces a strict zero tolerance policy concerning incidents of racist and/or discriminatory behavior," CONCACAF said.

The suspension comes after Costa Rican club Deportiva Alajuelense were given a fine and a stadium ban following racist abuse from their fans during a CONCACAF Champions League match earlier this year.
