Spartak's Promes hoping for Dutch call-up

Spartak Moscow's Dutch winger Quincy Promes is hoping the progress he has made since joining the Russian top flight club will earn him a fresh call-up for international duty.

Promes leads the Russian league scoring charts with four goals and hopes new Netherlands boss Danny Blind has taken note.

"I really want to receive a call-up from our national team's new coach. I will be completely happy if I get it," he told Monday's Soviet Sport daily.

"And I'm confident that it directly depends on the quality of my performance with the club. He (Blind) will definitely pay heed to me if I continue to make progress."

The 23-year-old, who has made four international appearances, added: "The Russian league is in every sense stronger than the Dutch championship and I've made serious progress here.

"I play better and better every year and I'm grateful to the Russian league for this opportunity."

Promes, who joined Russia's most successful club last year, said he felt free and comfortable in Spartak, where he is intent on pursuing his career despite interest from European clubs.

"I'm completely focused on my career at Spartak," added the player who has chalked up two braces this season in games at at Samara and Amkar Perm.

"I feel really good here and do not want to discuss any transfer rumours."

Promes, who had spells with Dutch clubs FC Twente and Go Ahead Eagles before signing for Spartak in a reported 15-million-euro ($17.2 million) transfer, made his debut for the Netherlands in a March 2014 friendly against France.
