African goals take Moscow club to group draw

Russian army club CSKA Moscow will be part of the UEFA Champions League group stage draw on Thursday thanks to three goals from African sharpshooters.

Ivorian Seydou Doumbia bagged a brace and Nigerian Ahmed Musa snatched the tie-clinching goal in a 3-1 midweek home triumph over Sporting Lisbon.

Algerian El-Arbi Hillel Soudani will be another African to feature in the last-32 mini-league stage after scoring twice for Dinamo Zagreb.

SEYDOU DOUMBIA (CSKA Moscow)

Penalty area opportunism enabled Doumbia to score twice as CSKA overcame a 2-1 first-leg deficit from last week.

His first goal came after a free-kick was deflected into his path and the second was a tap-in after Musa crossed.

AHMED MUSA (CSKA Moscow)

The diminutive winger smashed the ball into the net from close range with five minutes left to secure his club a place in the lucrative group stage.

Musa has been a pivotal figure during the qualifiers, scoring twice away to Czech side Sparta Prague in the previous round.

EL-ARBI HILLEL SOUDANI (Dinamo Zagreb)

The striker opened and closed the scoring as Croat outfit Dinamo won 4-1 at home to Albanian club Skenderbeu for a 6-2 aggregate triumph.

Soudani nodded in a cross to the far post on nine minutes and after testing the goalkeeper with several long-range shots, he completed the rout with a clinical finish.

ELDERSON ECHIEJILE (Monaco)

While Doumbia, Musa and Soudani can look forward to Champions League group action, Nigerian Elderson must settle for the second-tier Europa League.

His close-range poke gave Monaco a 2-1 second-leg victory over Valencia, but the 2015 quarter-finalists were eliminated having lost by two goals in Spain.
