Frenchman Bini appointed coach of Chinese women's team

Former France coach Bruno Bini was on Friday appointed coach of the Chinese national women's football team.

"I'm taking over the Steel Roses. I'm in Beijing where I was presented this morning to the Chinese press," Bini told AFP.

Bini, 60, has been without a team since leaving the French women's setup after the 2013 European championships where Les Bleues were eliminated in the quarter-finals by Denmark.

Under his guidance France finished fourth at the 2011 World Cup and at the 2012 London Olympics.

China are traditionally strong in women's football -- reaching the final of the 1999 World Cup and the quarter-finals of this year's tournament in Canada.
