Dundee Utd dismiss McNamara

Dundee United have parted company with manager Jackie McNamara, the Scottish Premiership club announced on Monday.

McNamara's exit had been anticipated following a poor start to the league campaign which saw United take just five points from their opening nine matches.

The former Scotland international held showdown talks with the board over the weekend following a 2-1 defeat at St Johnstone and it was decided he had no future at Tannadice.

"Dundee United Football Club and Jackie McNamara have mutually agreed the departure of McNamara as first-team manager with immediate effect," a United statement read.

"Following widely reported talks between the chairman and McNamara, the club and McNamara agreed that a change was required to improve the results of the club's first team, with immediate change being required following the club's start to the season."

Development squad assistant boss Dave Bowman will be caretaker manager while United's board look for a new boss.

Bowman is a former United midfielder who won six Scotland caps and had a spell as caretaker boss at Livingston in 2007.

His first match in charge will be against fellow strugglers Partick on Saturday.
