O'Donovan's goal run as Mariners claim draw

Irishman Roy O'Donovan scored his third goal in as many home games to help the Central Coast Mariners salvage a 1-1 draw with Wellington Phoenix in Australia's A-League on Sunday.

O'Donovan's 75th minute header cancelled out a ninth-minute strike from former Mariners favourite Michael McGlinchey.

The point each kept the Mariners and Phoenix in the lower half of the standings.

Sydney FC maintain their spot at the top of the table following a goalless home draw with Brisbane.

Both teams in the top-of-the-table game could not break down the opposing defences and settled for a point.

Western Sydney Wanderers moved into the top six thanks to a cracking 25-metre strike from Mitch Nichols in a 2-1 win over the Newcastle Jets at Hunter Stadium.

The Wanderers trailed 1-0 after Serbian Enver Alivodic scored in the 73rd minute but they equalised six minutes later from the penalty spot before Nichols put the Wanderers in front in the 86th minute with a powerful long range strike.

Melbourne City playmaker Aaron Mooy orchestrated a 4-2 victory over Adelaide United to leave the Reds as the A-League's only winless club.

Mooy set up Eric Paartalu for the opener and scored the next before Bruno Fornaroli rubbed salt into the Reds' gaping wounds with a second-half brace at Adelaide's Coopers Stadium.

Adelaide's Sergio Cirio scored in the 66th minute - the first goal by a Reds player this season - and Spanish teammate Pablo Sanchez netted late with a penalty.
