German coach Bernd Storck will remain in charge of Hungary until at least the end of the Euro 2016 championships in France, the Hungarian Football Association (MLSZ) said Monday.

The contract for the 52-year-old German, who replaced interim national team boss Pal Dardai last July, initially ran only to the end of the Euro 2016 qualifying campaign.

"The term of the current national team head coach and his technical staff will last until the end of the European championships in France next year," MLSZ president Sandor Csanyi told journalists in Budapest.

He added that there was an "opportunity for continued cooperation beyond that term".

The announcement came a day after Hungary reached their first major finals since the 1986 World Cup, defeating Norway 2-1 in Budapest for a 3-1 aggregate victory in their Euro 2016 play-off.

Storck was brought in last summer after Dardai cut short his contract to exclusively work for Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin.

The ex-Kazakhstan coach and player for Borussia Dortmund in the 1980s previously won plaudits for taking Hungary to the last 16 at the FIFA U20 World Cup in June.
