Eq. Guinea women expelled from 2020 Olympics

Equatorial Guinea have been expelled from the qualifying competition for the women's football tournament at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, FIFA announced on Monday.

The Disciplinary Committee of world football's governing body threw out the African nation "for the use of forged or falsified documents."

They said evidence had been found of two passports, with different dates of birth, being used by Equatorial Guinea player Camila Maria do Carmo Nobre de Oliveira, who had taken part in several matches in the preliminary competition for this year's Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

"Two birth certificates containing divergent information regarding the player's parental filiation were also provided," FIFA added.

As well as the ban from the 2020 Games, the Equatorial Guinea FA was fined 40,000 Swiss francs ($42,059, £29,500) while the player was handed a 10-game suspension from international football and fined two thousand Swiss francs.

FIFA added that "further investigations related to the eligibility of several other players are currently ongoing."

Equatorial Guinea lost in a two-legged tie to South Africa for a place at this year's Olympics.
