Norway's Andersen to become North Korea coach - reports

Former Norwegian international striker Jorn Andersen is to become the new coach of North Korea, Norwegian television station NRK reported on Wednesday, citing his family.

According to the reports, which have not been verified, the 53-year-old Andersen will sign a one-year contract.

Capped 27 times by Norway, Andersen is best remembered for becoming the first foreign player to be the top scorer in the German Bundesliga when he found the net 18 times for Eintracht Frankfurt in 1989-90.

Andersen, who also had a spell as a player in Switzerland, had been in charge of Austria Salzburg until last December. According to NRK he became a naturalised German in 1993.

Citing an anonymous source with "knowledge of the world of North Korean football", the Austrian newspaper Salzburger Nachrichten had said Andersen was one of two candidates for the job along with an unnamed Belgian.

Currently 112th in the FIFA rankings, North Korea reached the World Cup finals in 1966 and 2010 but are already eliminated from qualifying for the 2018 finals in Russia.
