Petkovic targets 'killer' Swiss to breach Poland

Switzerland coach Vladimir Petkovic is looking for his team to find the "killer" touch to break down Poland's so far unbreached defence when the sides clash at Euro 2016 on Saturday.

The sides meet at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard in Saint-Etienne having made it through to the knockout phase of a European Championship for the first time.

The Swiss 'Nati' only managed two goals in three games in Group A, in their 1-0 win over Albania and 1-1 draw with Romania -- they also played out a goalless draw with France.

"What we have lacked so far is shooting from range. We have top players, but we need to focus on the killer pass and killer cross to players inside the box," said Petkovic.

"Poland have been very strong, very compact and they haven't conceded a goal yet, but it's up to us to make a difference."

Poland and Germany are the only teams at Euro 2016 who have yet to concede a goal. The Poles beat Northern Ireland 1-0, held world champions Germany to a goalless draw, then finished with a 1-0 win over Ukraine in Group C.

But their star striker Robert Lewandowski, top-scorer in Euro 2016 qualifying with 13 goals, has yet to open his account in France.

"But of course he's still a threat," said Swiss captain and Juventus defender Stephan Lichtsteiner.

"It's not as though if a striker doesn't score for three games then he's not good anymore. He can still be a problem for us."

With no suspensions or injuries, Petkovic has a full squad to choose from and there is a quiet air of confidence around the Swiss camp.

"I think we're getting a taste for success. We still have feet on the ground, but we want to continue our progress," said Petkovic.

"It will be a close match, small advantages will decide the result.

"I read in the Polish press that there is a lot of belief and pressure (in their squad) to get into the final, as they have a good chance.

"It's up to us to make a difference."
