Ingolstadt relegated from Germany's top flight

Ingolstadt were confirmed on Saturday as the second club automatically relegated from the Bundesliga this season after their 1-1 draw at Freiburg.

With one round of matches left, the draw means Maik Walpurgis' Ingolstadt, who are 17th in the table, go down alongside bottom-side Darmstadt as the result left them four points from safety.

Dario Lezanco's header cancelled out Maximilian Philipp's first-half goal for hosts Freiburg, but the point was not enough to keep Ingolstadt up.

The fight to avoid finishing 16th, which means a two-legged relegation play-off against the team which finishes third in the second divison, will go down to the wire next Saturday.

The matter will be decided at Hamburg, who are currently in 16th place, when they are at home to 2009 champions Wolfsburg, who are just two points above them in 15th, in a mouth-watering clash.
