Rangers beaten again by Kilmarnock old boy Boyd

Former Rangers striker Kris Boyd came back to haunt his old club once more with the only goal as Kilmarnock won 1-0 at Ibrox on Saturday.

Boyd, who scored 115 goals for Rangers in two spells at the Glasgow giants, also scored twice when the sides last met in a 2-1 Kilmarnock victory back in December as Steve Clark's side moved to the brink of securing a top-six finish.

The 34-year-old has been linked with a return to the Scotland squad and showed why when he swept home his 20th goal of the season nine minutes after half-time.

Rangers' realistic chances of challenging for the title ended in a 3-2 defeat to local rivals Celtic and they now face a battle just to secure second place ahead of Aberdeen.

Celtic can move 12 points clear at the top with victory at Motherwell on Sunday.

Aberdeen were 1-0 winners over Dundee thanks to captain Graeme Shinnie's strike at Pittodrie to move to within two points of Rangers and with a game in hand.

Hearts scored three times before the break through Kyle Lafferty, Steven Naismith and John Souttar to ease past Partick Thistle at Tynecastle and strengthen their own case of finishing in the top six.

Ross County remain rooted to the foot of the table as a 2-2 draw with fellow strugglers Hamilton did little to aid their chances of beating the drop.
