On-loan Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard made a stunning debut for Birmingham as his four-goal haul inspired a 4-1 demolition of Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

England Under-21 international Lingard joined on loan from the Premier League champions on Thursday to help boost Birmingham's shot-shy attack and just 48 hours later he announced his arrival at St Andrews in remarkable fashion.

Lee Clark's team had won just one of their first seven Championship matches.

But Lingard, who failed to score during a loan spell at Leicester last season, bagged his first senior goal after 20 minutes and added two more in the 27th and 33rd minutes to complete a 13-minute hat-trick and make it 3-0 at the break.

Lingard, yet to make his United debut, notched his fourth of the match six minutes into the second half before Kamil Zayatte grabbed a consolation for shell-shocked Wednesday, who are yet to win this season.

Italian striker Federico Macheda, another Manchester United player sent out on loan this week, scored twice on his Doncaster debut, but Andy Reid's late equaliser gave Nottingham Forest a 2-2 draw at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Meanwhile, leaders Queens Park Rangers maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a 1-0 win at Yeovil.

In the first league meeting between the two sides, a controversial second half penalty from Charlie Austin kept QPR three points clear at the top as they aim for an instant return to the top-flight.

Harry Redknapp's side, who recorded their sixth consecutive clean sheet in all competitions, took the points in the 75th minute when Austin scored his third goal of the season after Dan Seaborne was adjudged to have impeded the former Burnley forward.

Tom Ince's late penalty salvaged a point for Blackpool as they drew 2-2 with fellow promotion chasers Leicester at Bloomfield Road.

Paul Ince's side went into the interval a goal to the good courtesy of Chris Basham's header.

But Leicester turned the game on its head after the break as a Paul Konchesky penalty and then Andy King's superb strike put them in front.

Leicester goalkeeper Kaspar Schmeichel then bundled over Gary MacKenzie in the 90th minute to concede a penalty and Tom Ince stepped up to equalise.

Fifth-placed Watford's strong start continued as the Hornets thrashed Barnsley 5-1 at Oakwell.

Ikechi Anya ran more than half the length of the pitch before firing home in the 79th minute after goals from Troy Deeney, Davide Faraoni, Fernando Forestieri and Sean Murray put Gianfranco Zola's men on course for a fourth league success of the campaign.

Jason Scotland's 13th-minute strike cancelled out Deeney's opener to briefly put the home side level.

A brace from striker Pavel Pogrebnyak helped Reading maintain their stranglehold over Derby with a 3-1 win at Pride Park.

The Russian struck twice in the second half and although Will Hughes pulled one back 10 minutes from the end, Nick Blackman pounced deep in stoppage time to seal the points.

Australian striker Scott McDonald eased the pressure on under-fire Millwall manager Steve Lomas as his deflected first half strike sealed a 1-0 win at south London rivals Charlton.

Elsewhere, Bolton stay bottom after a 3-1 defeat at Brighton and Burnley won 2-1 at Leeds.

Middlesbrough drew 3-3 with Bournemouth and Blackburn shared a goalless draw with Huddersfield.
