Former Italy striker Marco Simone has been put in charge of Swiss top-flight strugglers Lausanne until the end of the season.

Simone, who played for AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco and had a spell in charge of the Principality side when they were in the French second tier in 2011-12, has been officially named as technical director as he does not currently hold the necessary licence to work as a coach in Switzerland.

The club say that Simone will give the coaching reins to Frenchman Henri Atamaniuk.

Lausanne are rock-bottom of the Swiss Super League with just four points, lying 11 points adrift after 14 matches.

They had been coached by Frenchman Laurent Roussey until he departed for Sion last month.
