Red Bull Salzburg wrapped up the Austrian Bundesliga title in record time on Sunday after a 5-0 win over Wiener Neustadt sealed the crown with eight games to go.

With a 27-point lead on second-placed Groedig, Salzburg are assured of lifting the Austrian title for the fifth time since 2007.

It is the first time the Austrian title has been decided this early in the season.

Roger Schmidt's side have dominated this season with 22 wins in 28 Bundesliga ties and just two losses.

But despite their domestic success, Salzburg were chucked out of the Europa League on Thursday after a 2-1 loss to Swiss side FC Basel in the last-16.

The energy drink-sponsored team went into half-time on Sunday with two goals by Brazil's 24-year-old Alan and his Spanish striking partner Jonatan Soriano.

Alan hit the back of the net two more times in the second half to complete a hat-trick, while Senegal's Sadio Mane completed the goal fest.

Since 2006, Salzburg have not finished out of the top two in the Austrian top flight.

The champions have 70 points from 28 games with Groedig, newly promoted this season, second with 43 points, one point ahead of rivals Rapid Vienna and Austria Vienna.
