Everton set to sign Bosnia midfielder Besic

Everton are set to sign Muhamed Besic from Ferencvaros after the Bosnia midfielder joined the Premier League club on their pre-season visit to Thailand.

Germany-born Besic impressed Everton manager Roberto Martinez with his performances for Bosnia and Herzegovina at the recent World Cup and he is on the verge of sealing a £4 million ($6.7 million) switch to Goodison Park.

The 21-year-old's Hungarian team have allowed him to link up with Everton's squad in Thailand, where they are due to play a friendly against Leicester in Bangkok on Sunday, and Martinez is pleased to have the former Hamburg star in his squad to allow him time to get to know his team-mates before the transfer is officially confirmed.

"The next few days will allow Mo to meet the players," Martinez told Everton's official website.

"But more importantly it is an opportunity for him to get into optimum condition ahead of the new season.

"I am looking forward to introducing him to the Everton fans when we come back but first I would like to thank Ferencvaros for the way in which they have approached the negotiations.

"They have been very understanding at this point and we have enjoyed a good working relationship."

Besic was widely regarded as Bosnia's stand-out performer at the World Cup and earned praise for his shadowing of Argentina's star forward Lionel Messi.

Once the deal has been confirmed Besic will become Martinez's second pre-season acquisition following midfielder Gareth Barry, who made his loan move from Manchester City permanent at the start of the month.
