Sevilla's Jairo signs for Mainz

Sevilla winger Jairo Samperio has signed a four-year deal with Mainz, the German Bundesliga club confirmed on Friday.

Mainz lost two of their attacking stalwarts at the end of last season, with Cameroonian Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting and Nicolai Müller signing for Schalke 04 and Hamburg respectively.

And manager Christian Heidel said they had been impressed by Jairo after he helped Sevilla win the Europa League crown last season and featured for Spain at the under-20 World Cup last year in Turkey.

"Jairo is the player that we've been looking for to bolster our forward line," said Heidel of the 21-year-old.

"He is a young player who is constantly evolving but who has already played three years at the highest level in Spain," he added of the 21-year-old without giving financial details.

Jairo made 25 appearances for Sevilla last season after joining from Racing Santander. However, he missed the Europa League final win against Benfica due to suspension.
