Montpellier agree to sell Stambouli to Spurs

French Ligue 1 club Montpellier on Friday announced that they had reached an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur to sell midfielder Benjamin Stambouli to the London outfit.

"MHSC and Tottenham Hotspur FC have reached an agreement concerning the transfer of Benjamin Stambouli. He will go to London in the coming hours to undergo a medical and finalise his contract," read a statement on Montpellier's official website.

Stambouli, 24, had been mulling over an offer to join Marseille, who had agreed to pay Montpellier five million euros ($6.6m) for the player. However, Stambouli had not been keen on the idea of being used in defence at the Stade Velodrome.

He had also been a target for Swansea City and Fiorentina.

Stambouli was a regular in the Montpellier team that won the Ligue 1 title in 2012 and is tipped to break into the France side ahead of Euro 2016.
