US books Honduras friendly ahead of Ecuador

Jurgen Klinsmann will get his first post-World Cup look at the United States in back-to-back matches when the Americans face two games in five days against Latin American rivals.

USA Soccer announced Friday that the Americans will play host to Honduras on October 14 at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton.

The friendly comes four days after the US squad meets Ecuador in East Hartford, Connecticut, in what will be the international farewell match for all-time US scoring leader Landon Donovan.

The Americans' first match since being ousted from the World Cup by Belgium in the round of 16 will be against the Czech Republic at Prague on Wednesday, with Klinsmann taking a look at young European-based talent.

Playing the Catrachos in Florida will be the first look for Klinsmann at the North American region (CONCACAF) rivals he will face in next year's Gold Cup continental tournament. Honduras qualified for the past two World Cups.

"Honduras has proved that they are one of the top teams in CONCACAF," Klinsmann said. "As we begin our preparation for the Gold Cup, this is a great opportunity for our players to see the type of opponent they will face next summer."

The US squad is 14-4 with three drawn against Honduras. They last met in the 2013 Gold Cup semi-finals, when the US team won 3-1 on the way to the title.
