Falcao on bench for Man United against QPR

New signings Marcos Rojo and Daley Blind were handed debuts in Manchester United's Premier League home game with Queens Park Rangers on Sunday, but Radamel Falcao started on the bench.

Colombia striker Falcao, a loan signing from Monaco, was joined on the substitutes bench by England left-back Luke Shaw, who could be in line to make his debut after overcoming a hamstring injury.

United coach Louis van Gaal kept faith with a front three of Juan Mata, Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney, while £59.7 million ($98 million, 75 million euros) record signing Angel di Maria was given his home debut.

Rafael da Silva and Ander Herrera, another close-season signing, returned to the team after injury.

United are bidding to record their first victory of the new season after two draws and a defeat in the league and a 4-0 defeat by third-tier Milton Keynes Dons in the League Cup.

Meanwhile, Rio Ferdinand started for QPR on his return to Old Trafford after being released by United at the end of last season.

The 35-year-old former England centre-back spent 12 years at United, notably winning six Premier League titles and the 2007-08 Champions League.

QPR manager Harry Redknapp also gave starts to transfer deadline-day recruits Sandro and Niko Kranjcar.
