Genoa spurn chance for third place in Serie A

High-flying Genoa spurned the chance to move up to third place in Italy's Serie A on Monday after being held to a 1-1 draw by visitors Palermo.

In a result which meant all home sides failed to win in Italy's top flight over the weekend, Argentinian Paulo Dybala hit a spectacular effort just seven minutes in to give the Sicilians the lead.

Genoa secured a share of the points thanks to Luca Antonelli's leveller on the half hour, but the dropped points meant they stay in fifth place, one point behind city rivals Sampdoria.

Juventus, who beat Lazio 3-0 on Saturday, hold a three-point lead on title rivals Roma, who defeated Atalanta 2-1 away, while Napoli are in third a further six points adrift after a thrilling 3-3 draw at home to Cagliari on Sunday.

AC Milan and Inter Milan played out an entertaining 1-1 draw in the derby at the San Siro on Sunday. The Rossoneri remain seventh, 13 points behind Juventus, with Inter a further point adrift in ninth.
