Teen talent Odegaard trains with Bayern

Defending Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich lead the race to sign Norway's 15-year-old rising star Martin Odegaard after the midfielder took part in training with the Bavarian giants.

Odegaard, who set a new record at 15 years, 300 days, when he played for Norway in a senior European Championships qualifier in October, trained with Pep Guardiola's Bayern in mid-week.

Chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge is hopeful of signing him from Norway's Stromsgodset IF with Real Madrid and Liverpool also reported to be monitoring him.

"We're working hard and I think we have a good chance," Rummenigge told German daily Bild.

"He's an absolutely exceptional talent for his age."

Odegaard turns 16 on Wednesday, which means he is able to transfer from a non-European Union country, in this case Norway, to Germany, who are within the EU, according to the rules.

When asked directly about Odegaard, Guardiola deferred the matter: "That's an excellent question for Bayern's director of sport Matthias Sammer," said the Spaniard.
