Naughton leaves Spurs for Swansea

English right-back Kyle Naughton has joined Swansea City from Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur on a three-and-a-half-year contract, the Welsh club announced on Thursday.

The 26-year-old is reported to have cost Swansea around £5 million ($7.5 million, 6.6 million euros) and could make his debut at Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup on Saturday.

"I'm pleased it's all done because there has been talk since the summer over a potential move," Naughton, who can also play at left-back, told the Swansea website.

"My main aim is to start playing regular football again. I know it's going to be a tough challenge because there are some very good players here, but that's my goal."

Naughton, a former England Under-21 international, played for Spurs 74 times after signing from Sheffield United in 2009, but made only five Premier League starts for the London club this season.

He becomes Swansea's third signing of the January transfer window following the arrivals of Portuguese striker Nelson Oliveira on loan from Benfica and midfielder Matt Grimes from Exeter City.
