Matri gets second chance with Juventus

Striker Alessandro Matri returned to Italian champions Juventus for a second spell on Monday after signing on loan from Serie A rivals AC Milan.

The 30-year-old Italian -- who was at Juventus from 2011 to 2013 before falling out of favour with then coach Antonio Conte -- has been in fine form this season for Genoa, where he was on loan from Milan, scoring seven times.

Matri, who will replace Sebastian Giovinco who has left earlier than expected for MLS club FC Toronto, is reunited with coach Massimiliano Allegri, under whom he starred for Cagliari from 2007-2011.

Matri, who was capped six times, failed to flourish at AC Milan, where he had begun his career, when they bought him from Juventus for 11million euros in 2013.

A loan move to Fiorentina also failed to work out as he scored just four times in 15 games.

Genoa could seek to replace Matri with AS Roma's Marco Borriello, who has already had two spells at the club.
