Japanese international defender Saki Kumagai has extended her contract with Lyon by one year, the French club announced Friday.

The 24-year-old Kumagai, who was part of Japan's World Cup-winning squad in 2011 and silver medal-winning team at the London Olympics a year later, has scored nine goals in 50 appearances for Lyon, with whom she won the French league and Cup double last season.

Kumagai arrived in the southeastern French city in summer 2013 and her contract had been due to run out in June this year.
