Almeria to appeal points deduction punishment

La Liga side Almeria have appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) a decision by FIFA which could see them docked three points for unpaid debts to foreign clubs.

Spanish media reported that the debt in question is allegedly owed to Danish club Aalborg for the signing of defender Michael Jakobsen in 2010.

"Given the information doing the rounds in media outlets and on social media about the possibility of Almeria being deducted three points in La Liga by FIFA, the club wants to clarify that the said sanction is being appealed to CAS," the club said in a statement on their website.

"The application for that appeal has been accepted, therefore at the moment there is no final sentence and no immediate application of the sanction."

Almeria currently lie in 17th in La Liga, just one point above the relegation zone.
