Swansea City striker Bafetimbi Gomis moved to reassure concerned onlookers that he was "feeling well" after collapsing during his side's 3-2 Premier League defeat at Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday.

"I wanted to reassure you concerning my health, it actually looks much more scary than physically dangerous and I am feeling well now," Gomis wrote on Twitter after the match at White Hart Lane.

Gomis, 29, fainted and fell to the ground shortly after Spurs took a seventh-minute lead and was given oxygen by medical staff before being carried off on a stretcher and taken to hospital.

The France international has what is known as a vasovagal condition, which had seen him previously faint three times during his time with former club Lyon, and said the problem had been exacerbated by stress.

"I have been under a great deal of stress and fatigue due to my father (sic) health that requires me to go back and forth to France," he added on Twitter.

"I was disappointed that I couldn't help my team tonight but now everything is back in order. I also want to thank everyone for their support and get well messages."

Swansea manager Garry Monk said: "Bafetimbi Gomis is fine. He went to hospital as a precaution, but he is fine. That's the main thing.

"He just needed a minute, but he was talking when he came off the pitch. We understand his history. He has had all the tests, but it's just part of life for him."

Gomis's former France and Lyon team-mate Hugo Lloris, who was playing in goal for Spurs, added: "It's not the first time, but it's always a big moment of worry for all the stadium and the players.

"Everyone was scared, but the most important thing is Bafe is much better now and I hope he will recover well and be involved for the next game."

White Hart Lane was the scene of a dramatic episode in March 2012 when Bolton Wanderers midfielder Fabrice Muamba collapsed on the pitch after suffering a cardiac arrest during an FA Cup tie.

Although his heart stopped for 78 minutes, he made a full recovery, but had to retire from professional football later that year.
