Mohsni to face ban after Motherwell meltdown

Rangers defender Bilel Mohsni could face an extended ban after the Scottish Football Association charged the Tunisia international with three counts of violent conduct following his attack on Motherwell's Lee Erwin.

Mohsni sparked a pitch battle at the end of Sunday's Scottish Premiership play-off final second leg at Fir Park when he kicked and punched Erwin after the Motherwell player tried to shake his hand.

The France-born 27-year-old was sent off after the final whistle of Rangers' 6-1 aggregate defeat, which condemned them to another season outside the top-flight, and has now been punished with an initial four-game suspension.

However, Mohsni faces being sanctioned further by SFA disciplinary bosses after they charged him with three counts of "excessive misconduct by committing sending-off offences of violent conduct".

Police are still investigating the incident but his agent claims his "career in British football" is over.

Mohsni, who is out of contract with the Scottish Championship club, has already returned to his parents house in Paris, according to reports.

The notice of complaint levied against the Mohsni states he breached disciplinary rule 202 with his assault on Erwin and that "these sending-off offences of Violent Conduct were aggravated by the number of acts of Violent Conduct committed by you, by the prolonged nature of the incident involving these acts, and by the high degree of physical violence used".

A hearing has been set for June 18 and Mohsni has until June 9 to respond to the complaint.

Meanwhile, Motherwell duo Lionel Ainsworth and Craig Moore have accepted two-match bans for their part in the fracas.
