MLS makes offer to star striker Drogba

Didier Drogba, the 37-year-old striker who called it quits for Chelsea earlier this year, is being wooed by Major League Soccer but has competition from Qatar, ESPN reported Friday.

Several MLS teams are reportedly in the hunt for Drogba, with the Chicago Fire making the biggest move for the Ivory Coast forward, ESPN reporting the Fire were prepared to offer $2.5 million a year for an 18-month deal.

An answer could come as soon as this weekend, according to the report.

Drogba has been a free agent since his contract with the English Premier League champions expired.

He scored seven goals in 38 matches during his second spell with Chelsea, for whom the African has served during four league title runs, four FA Cups and a Champions League crown.

Drogba departed Chelsea in 2012 after eight years in London for China's Shanghai squad and later joined Turkey's Galatasaray before rejoining Chelsea last season.

He has 65 goals in 104 internationals for Ivory Coast.
