Ikeme gets Nigeria call for Africa Cup qualifier

Nigeria coach Sunday Oliseh on Monday called up Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper Carl Ikeme among an 18-man squad of foreign professionals for next month's 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Tanzania.

English-born Ikeme, 29, qualifies to play for Nigeria through his father and he is now expected to battle skipper and the country's first-choice goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama for a place in the starting XI.

New coach Oliseh has also included two other uncapped players -- Russia-based Izunna Ernest Uzochukwu and Sylvester Igboun.

Otherwise Oliseh kept faith with Dubai-based striker Emmanuel Emenike, Kenneth Omeruo, Ahmed Musa, Godfrey Oboabona and Anthony Ujah, who have also been involved with former coach Stephen Keshi.

The overseas players are to join up with the 23 others from the domestic league in Abuja not later than Monday, August 31.
