Deschamps includes Martial to face Portugal and Serbia

Teenage Monaco forward Anthony Martial received a first international call-up on Thursday as France coach Didier Deschamps named a 23-man squad for friendlies against Portugal and Serbia next month.

The pair of matches are preparation for Euro 2016, which France will host next year.

The 19-year-old Martial, who joined Monaco in 2013 from Lyon, has slowly risen up the French international ranks having played at all youth levels.

"He plays in a central position even if he moves a lot, more to the left than to the right," said Deschamps.

"He has an interesting combination of speed and power. He is young but what interests me is his attributes of penetration and speed.

"He has interesting potential and I want to see how he gets on as part of the group."

Former World Cup and European Championship winner Deschamps included Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris as well as regular stalwarts Yohan Cabaye of Crystal Palace, Real Madrid marksman Karim Benzema, Lyon's new signing Mathieu Valbuena and Arsenal's Olivier Giroud

Chelsea's fast improving defender Kurt Zouma was also on the list while injured Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette, who has a back injury, and Liverpool's defender Mamadou Sakho were omitted.

The matches will be played in Lisbon against Portugal on September 4 and against Serbia in Bordeaux on September 7.
