Klopp's first press conference - in quotes

Liverpool's new manager Jurgen Klopp charmed the British media on Friday in his first press conference since being appointed as the successor to the sacked Brendan Rodgers.

AFP Sports selects the highlights from his official unveiling:

"The intensity of the football, of how the people live football in Liverpool, all Liverpool fans around the world. It is not a usual club, it is a special club. I had two very, very special clubs with Mainz and Borussia Dortmund. It is the perfect next step for me to be here and try and help."

- On what attracted him to Liverpool, who are currently 10th in the Premier League

"It is a real important thing that the players feel the difference from now on. They have to think they can reach the expectations of all the people, of all the fans, of the press. We have to change from doubters to believers. We have to change our performance, of course, but stop thinking about money (for signing new players). It is only about football. If you want to enjoy the game, you have to prepare for this. If you come to the game, you want to see fighting spirit, many shots and the result is only the result of these things."

- On changing perceptions at Anfield

"It was not a problem for 10 seconds. We talk about it, of course, but for me it is enough to have the first and the last word; the middle we can discuss. We only want to discuss about very good players. I am not a genius. I need other people to get perfect information."

- On working with the transfer committee introduced by club owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG)

"I don't want to describe myself. Does anyone in this room think I can do wonders? No. I am a normal guy. I come from the Black Forest. I am 'the Normal One'. I was a very average player, I became a manager in Germany at a special club, Mainz, then I had a great opportunity to take Dortmund, a special club, for seven years. For both parties it was best to leave and now I am here. I hope to enjoy my work."

- On comparisons with 'the Special One', Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho

"I am not here today to speak too much about our football. First I want to talk to my team about the football. Everyone knows me. I don't change in four months. It is emotion inside, it is speed, it is a transition game, so you will see this. All the things that make football interesting, I want to see on the pitch."

- On his style of football

"I had a normal holiday. I am 48. Most of the time in my life I had no money to make a holiday and then I had no time. Then I had four months. It was really cool. I went with the family, played tennis, watched football all over the world."

- On his four-month sabbatical since leaving Borussia Dortmund at the end of last season

"Please give us time to work on it. If you want, this could be a really special day. I don't want to say we can wait 20 years. If we sit here in four years, I think we win one title."

- On his ambitions

"All the people tell me about the British press, so it is up to you to show me they are all liars."
