Brighton maintained their unbeaten start to the Championship season on Saturday but had to settle for a point after Reading fought back to earn a 1-1 draw.

Chris Hughton's leaders looked on course for their ninth league win of the season when Scottish winger Jamie Murphy finished off a slick passing move in the 51st minute.

But former Watford striker Matej Vydra pounced on goalkeeper David Stockdale's error to equalise with 10 minutes remaining, keeping the Royals one place away from the play-offs.

Hughton admitted that Reading had deserved a point.

"On the balance of play today, I think it was a fair result," he said.

"It was an entertaining game and maybe, from our point of view, it was a bit too entertaining at times."

Hull capitalised on Brighton's draw to move within two points of the summit after winning 2-0 at Milton Keynes Dons.

Egypt winger Ahmed Elmohamady opened the scoring with the Tigers' first attack, finishing Abel Hernandez's low cross at the back post.

Substitute Mohamed Diame sealed the points late on with a neat finish from Scotland midfielder Shaun Maloney's through-ball.
