Ba does the trick for slick Shenhua

Former Premier League hitman Demba Ba missed a 30th-minute penalty but still managed to bag a hat-trick as Shanghai Shenhua beat Shijiazhuang Ever Bright 3-1 in the Chinese Super League (CSL) at the weekend.

The former Newcastle and Chelsea striker saw his weak spot-kick saved for the second game in succession, but made amends with a sharply-taken treble.

The Senegalese marksman netted from close range in the fifth, 43rd and 58th minutes but admitted that his continuing woe from the penalty spot was puzzling.

"Usually I never miss penalties," he said after the match at Hongkou stadium in Shanghai, "not to mention two in a row. I felt feel quite down about that.

"I'm going to practise more in training to keep goalkeepers guessing next time."

In the battle of China's two newly-rich clubs, Hebei China Fortune held leaders Jiangsu Suning to a 1-1 in front of 24,368 in Qinhuangdao city.

Former QPR midfielder Stephane Mbia of Cameroon equalised for the home side in the 59th minute after Brazilian forward Ramires, who cost 28 million euros ($32 million) from Premier League champions Chelsea in January, had opened the scoring in the 22nd minute for Jiangsu.

The Guangzhou derby saw 46,933 fans watch Luiz Felipe Scolari's Evergrande triumph 2-0 over southern city rivals R&F thanks to a goal apiece from 50 million euro ($57 million) former Atletico Madrid striker Jackson Martinez and ex-Tottenham midfielder Paulinho.

Asian champions Evergrande's second win in three CSL matches this campaign moves them up to third in the fledgling table, a point behind the undefeated Jiangsu Suning, who lead on goal difference from Henan Jianye.

Sven-Goran Eriksson's Shanghai SIPG are still winless after drawing 1-1 away to Chongqing Lifan who played with 10 men for 87 minutes after having Luo Xin red-carded in the third minute.

It looked as though Eriksson's side would take all three ponts after Wu Lei's 30th-minute opener, but they were punished for failing to press home their advantage when Brazilian Fernandinho equalised nine minutes from time.

Mozambique defender Zainadine Junior scored at both ends as the points were shared in an eight-goal thriller between Changchun Yatai and Tianjin Teda.

Bolivian international Marcelo Moreno scored a hat-trick to put the home side Changchun 3-2 up in front of a crowd of 21,365.

Fredy Montero and Junior had earlier scored for visitors Tianjin who thought they had snatched victory when Australian defender Aleksandar Jovanovic struck in the 73rd and 84th minutes to put them 4-3 up.

But a bizarre own goal by Junior two minutes from the final whistle left honours even at 4-4.
