Knee injury rules Italy's Perin out of Euro 2016

Genoa goalkeeper Mattia Perin has been ruled out of Italy's Euro 2016 campaign after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, the Serie A club announced on Tuesday.

Perin, 23, was hurt after a collision with team-mate Ezequiel Munoz during the first half of Saturday's 1-0 league win over Sassuolo.

However, he played out the remainder of the match as Genoa won for the fourth time in five outings before the extent of his injury was revealed.

Perin made his Italy debut in 2014 and was expected to be his country's third-choice keeper at the European Championship, but he will undergo surgery on Wednesday and is likely to be replaced in the squad by AC Milan's 17-year-old Gianluigi Donnarumma.
