French Ligue 1 side Guingamp have appointed Antoine Kombouare as their new coach on a three-year deal to succeed the Bordeaux-bound Jocelyn Gourvennec, the club announced on Monday.

Kombouare, 52, who has been in charge of Lens for the last three years, will be unveiled by the Brittany club at a press conference on Wednesday.

Kombouare starred for Paris Saint-Germain during his playing career and coached them to French Cup glory in 2010 but was sacked by the capital club midway through the 2011-12 season despite them sitting top of the league.

He took Lens to promotion to Ligue 1 in his first season in charge in 2014 but the financially troubled outfit went straight back down the following year and finished sixth in Ligue 2 in the season just ended.

Gourvennec has been one of the most successful coaches in Guingamp's history, leading them to two promotions to take them from the third tier up to Ligue 1.

He also oversaw their French Cup triumph in 2014 and led them to 16th place in the season just finished, but Bordeaux announced last week that they had reached a deal to make him their new coach.

There have been several other coaching changes in France since the season finished, with Nantes appointing Rene Girard, Rennes naming Christian Gourcuff and Nice replacing Claude Puel with the Swiss Lucien Favre.
