Villa face Luton in League Cup

Relegated Aston Villa were handed a tricky trip to fourth tier side Luton in Wednesday's draw for the League Cup first round.

Villa crashed out of the Premier League last season and are preparing for their first season in the second tier for 29 years.

That means entering the League Cup earlier than in the past and, under new manager Roberto Di Matteo, they will travel to Kenilworth Road to face League Two Luton during the week commencing August 8.

Newcastle and Norwich, also relegated from the Premier League, have been handed byes into the second round as they were the highest-placed teams last season.

The League Cup has been renamed the EFL Cup as part of the English Football League's rebranding.

Sheffield Wednesday, League Cup winners in 1991, will travel to fourth tier Cambridge and 2013 runners-up Bradford will play at Accrington, while four-time winners Nottingham Forest visit Doncaster.
