Monaco have signed up-and-coming left-back Benjamin Mendy on a five-year deal from Marseille, the Principality outfit said on Wednesday.

The 21-year-old who has played 81 French top flight games is said to have cost Monaco more than 10 million euros (£7.6m, $11.3m).

"Bernard has the double attraction of being a great hope for the future whilst also having already gained a great deal of experience," said club vice-president Vadim Vasileyev.

A French international at five age group levels, Mendy is Monaco's first signing of the close season as they seek to strengthen the side that came third in Ligue 1 last season.
