Veteran Olic joins second-tier 1860 Munich

Veteran Croatian striker Ivica Olic, who turns 37 in September, has signed a one-year contract with German second-tier club 1860 Munich, it was announced Wednesday.

It had been thought Olic's career was over after he was injured in March while training with Hamburg, but the offer from 1860 will extend his playing career into next season.

Olic has scored 72 goals in 238 Bundesliga games and made 104 appearances for Croatia, scoring 20 goals for his country, before retiring from international football in March.

He has played for Hamburg and Wolfsburg in Germany's top flight and was part of the Bayern Munich squad which won the league and cup double in 2010.

Having played for the Bavarian giants from 2009 until 2012, he will be back at Munich's Allianz Arena next season, but in the blue shirt of neighbours 1860 Munich.

"Basically, there is nothing you need to add about Ivica Olic, his record and former clubs speak for themselves," said 1860's director of sport Thomas Eichin.

"He has repeatedly demonstrated throughout his career that he is an absolute role model.

"A lot of our guys will learn from him in terms of attitude and professionalism."
