Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho was sent to the stands for angrily kicking a water bottle during his side's 1-1 Premier League draw with West Ham United on Sunday.

Midway through the first half at Old Trafford, Mourinho took his displeasure out on a plastic bottle standing beside his technical area after Paul Pogba was booked for diving by referee Jonathan Moss.

He was sent to the stands for the second time this season, having previously been banished at half-time of United's recent 0-0 draw with Burnley, which landed him a one-match touchline ban.

"The referee explained it to Jose and there is nothing more to say," United's assistant manager Rui Faria, speaking on Mourinho's behalf, told BBC Sport after the game.

"I think there was frustration from Jose after the yellow card for Pogba. It should be a foul for us, but the referee understood it in another way."

Mourinho, 53, received a fine earlier this month after discussing Anthony Taylor's suitability to referee his side's league game at Liverpool.

Mourinho had a run-in with Moss during the final weeks of his tenure as Chelsea manager last season.

Mourinho confronted Moss at half-time after being sent to the stands during a 2-1 loss at West Ham and was hit with a one-game stadium ban by the Football Association.

Sunday's result was United's fourth successive home league draw after previous stalemates against Stoke City, Burnley and Arsenal.

It left them 11 points below league leaders Chelsea in sixth place.
