Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino faces a nervous wait to discover how long Harry Kane will be out of action with the ankle injury he suffered in Sunday's FA Cup quarter-final win over Millwall.

Kane limped off in the early stages of the 6-0 victory at White Hart Lane and left the stadium on crutches with his right foot in a protective boot.

The England striker was out for seven weeks after sustaining a similar ankle injury earlier this season and,with a scan set to reveal the extent of the damage on Monday, Pochettino gave a downbeat assessment on Kane's chances of returning soon.

That would be a major blow to Tottenham's hopes of winning the FA Cup and closing the gap on Premier League leaders Chelsea.

It is also a concern for England manager Gareth Southgate, who is set to name his squad for forthcoming matches against Germany and Lithuania.

"He twisted his ankle in the same way as before, it was the same ankle he injured in the game against Sunderland," Pochettino said.

"Now we have to wait, we will assess it tomorrow (Monday).

"It's difficult. We hope it's not a big issue but it looks a similar situation as his previous injury.

"We hope it's not a big issue. I'm sure it will be difficult to play against Southampton next weekend.

"Of course I'm sad about Harry's injury but we have to find a solution.

"When you lose a player like Harry you will miss him. Harry is one of the best strikers in England but we can't cry.

"It's never an excuse if we don't achieve our aims without Harry."
