Neuer regret at missing Bayern's cup, league push

Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer says he is sad to be ruled out for the rest of the season, missing Bayern Munich's push for a fifth straight Bundesliga title.

The 31-year-old world-class shot-stopper fractured his left foot in Bayern's 4-2 Champions League second-leg defeat at Real Madrid on Tuesday as the Germans bowed out 6-3 on aggregate.

Bayern has said Neuer will not need an operation, but will be sidelined for their five remaining league games, with Munich eight points clear in the table, and Wednesday's German Cup semi-final at home to Borussia Dortmund.

"Of course I am sad, that I am not available for the team during the final stage of the season," Neuer told FCBayern.de on Thursday.

"Now I will concentrate on being fit as quickly as possible, that's the most important thing now."

Bayern's reserve goalkeeper Sven Ulreich will stand in with Munich just three wins short of winning the Bundesliga.

Neuer, Germany's captain, will also miss the world champions' Confederations Cup campaign in Russia from June 17-July 2.
