Zenit rescue point at Anzhi to stay unbeaten

Leandro Paredes struck late to snatch Zenit St Petersburg a 2-2 draw at bottom club Anzhi Makhachkala on Sunday, keeping the Russian Premier League leaders' unbeaten record intact.

Oleg Danchenko and Adlan Katsaev scored for Anzhi, but Alexander Kokorin and Paredes cancelled out the home team's lead on both occasions, leaving Roberto Mancini's Zenit two points clear of second-placed Lokomotiv Moscow.

Krasnodar, who slumped to a 1-0 defeat at Arsenal Tula on Friday, sit third, five points further back.

"It was a very difficult and hard match," Zenit coach Mancini said. "We conceded several crucial mistakes possibly because of tiredness. We played our previous match just three days ago.

"I cannot say that we underestimated our opponents, Anzhi played very good tonight."

Ukrainian midfielder Danchenko scored the opening goal on 20 minutes when he turned in a Vladimir Poluyakhtov cross.

After the interval, Zenit upped the tempo and Kokorin levelled with a header from a corner in the 57th minute to increase his lead in the goalscoring chart with his eighth of the season.

Katsaev restored Anzhi's advantage just two minutes later, firing home after beating the Zenit defence on a breakaway.

But Argentinian Paredes rescued a point for the visitors with a low shot from 20 yards with only five minutes remaining.

Meanwhile, second-placed Lokomotiv Moscow narrowed the gap with a 3-0 victory over city rivals Dynamo.

Lokomotiv, fresh from their win over Czech side Zlin in the Europa League, dominated the early play and Portuguese midfielder Manuel Fernandes scored a rebound in the 24th minute.

Eder netted nine minutes later when he fired the ball in from close range, before Alexei Miranchuk rounded off the scoring by hammering in a pinpoint pass from his twin brother Anton.

"Today everything went our way on the pitch," Lokomotiv head coach Yury Semin said. "I really enjoyed my team's play tonight."
