New LA MLS club to debut March 4 at Seattle

Los Angeles FC, the newest expansion club in Major League Soccer, will debut at Seattle on March 4, a day after the North American league kicks off its 2018 campaign.

The league announced next season's opening matches on Tuesday as well as a news conference for Wednesday in Nashville, Tennessee, where the US country music haven is expected to be named as an expansion site.

LAFC is set to become the 23rd MLS club with David Beckham's long-delayed Miami MLS venture looking to be solidified as the league's 24th team before the start of next season.

Nashville, Cincinnati, Detroit and Sacramento were named finalists for two new MLS teams to be unveiled before the end of the month.

As far as next season, defending MLS Cup champion Toronto FC will begin the 2018 campaign on March 3 when the Canadian squad entertains the Columbus Crew in a rematch of this year's Eastern Conference final.

Six other opening-day matches will see Atlanta head to Houston, DC United at Orlando City, Real Salt Lake at FC Dallas, Chicago at Colorado, Minnesota at San Jose and New England at Philadelphia.

The last team to play a home opener will be LAFC, which will entertain Seattle on April 29 at its new Banc of California Stadium.
